Given the fact that more and more people have acne today, the quest is on to find alternative and better acne treatments to help such people get rid of the acne and its scars. Traditionally, antibiotics and creams were used to cure acne but these have not been very successful. Modern times have led to the discovery of newer acne treatment methods that complement these traditional ones. Such acne treatment methods include phototherapy, laser surgery and hormonal treatments. Modifying your diet and its contents is being looked at as another alternative acne cure treatment today. Many propose avoiding dairy products will reduce acne or increasing the amount of chromium and zinc will reduce acne. Lastly, spices readily available at homes are being touted as the best cure for acne. However, such methods are not tested and hence we cannot say for sure whether they are effective or not.

Laser surgery is a recent acne treatment that has been discovered and has been known to cure acne and reduce the scars. This technique uses laser beams to burn the scarred skin and allows the underlying skin to create healthy and new tissue. However, it is too early to comment on this technique as it is in its early stages of development. Moreover, this technique is useful only after the pimples have turned to scars, whereas people are now searching for techniques that will help prevent its occurrence.

Research is on to find out whether this technique can be used to prevent the occurrence of pimples, in the first place. Recent studies have found out that medical grade laser can be used to burn the follicle sac or the sebaceous glands in that part of the face which is prone to acne. Secondly, researchers are also looking into the possibility of using laser to induce oxygen creation in the bacteria, which can then be used to kill it. However, researchers caution that using laser to prevent acne is still not a tried and tested technique and can be dangerous as excess heat is known to cause other problems of the skin like dryness, spotting etc.

DNA sequencing is another alternative method being researched by scientists for the treatment of acne permanently. In this method, they are trying to decipher the reasons for some people being more prone to acne than others. By studying the gene makeup of those who do not suffer from acne, they plan to restructure the gene makeup of sufferers accordingly. However, it is best to say that this is really a treatment of the future as it is still in the early research stages and hence not really possible to be used in the immediate future.
