Reddened or unhealed skin lacerations lead to scars or disfiguring of skin, which can largely be attributed to a person’s genetic makeup. Acne scars can be classified into two types, simple and ice pick scar. Simple scar is just a colored or pigmented spot on the skin, usually brown, pink or purple, which just shows evidence of a pimple. Simple scars or pigmented scars are caused because of concentration of pigment during the natural healing process of the tissue and this can be reduced by using various creams, lotions and even laser surgery. The second type of scar is the ice pick scar, where the laceration causes a hole or depression in the skin. Such disfiguring is caused by severe forms of acne like pustules, nodules or cysts but sometimes even prying open a comedo can result in a laceration that ends in a scar.
The most common technique used for removal of scars is chemical peeling of skin by using lycolic, salicylic or lactic acid and creating a new and smooth layer in its stead. This treatment is most effective for pigmented scars and needs to be done regularly over a certain period of time, maybe weeks or months, depending on the scars. Moreover, this treatment is effective even on active acne.
There are two methods of treatment normally used to treat ice pick scars, namely, dermabrasion and laser resurfacing. A high speed rotary wire brush and diamond coated stone is used to remove the top layer of the skin in dermabrasion and this method requires more than one sitting and is not hundred percent effective.
Laser resurfacing is by far the better treatment method for such scars, where concentrated light from a laser beam is directed onto the affected surface, which is burned off. Cosmetic surgeons and dermatologists prefer this mode of treatment over dermabrasion for removal of such scars.

I have had sever acne in the past and was left with unattractive scars on my face.

The Max Powers Scar Cream does work well, but don’t expect to see results instantly. You need to apply it regularly and consistently for about a month in order to see results. It really does work though.
